The Hidden Side of Wireless Earbuds

Your AirPods expose you to something you can’t see or hear.

Most people who use AirPods never think twice about them.

They’re comfortable. Convenient. They sound incredible.

But they also sit directly inside your ear canal — millimeters from your brain — for hours at a time.

If you wear AirPods for just three hours a day, that’s over 1,000 hours a year of radiofrequency radiation exposure directly inside your ear canal.

For teenagers who wear them through school, commutes, workouts, and more, that number can be significantly higher.

That’s why we created BioPods.

BioPods clip directly onto your AirPods and reduce the radiation your body absorbs from them by up to 80% — without affecting sound quality, connectivity, or comfort.

They use Swiss-engineered MobileTek® technology and have been tested and verified by an FCC-certified US lab.

Dr. Jerry Phillips, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Colorado, has raised concerns about AirPods because of their placement inside the ear canal:

“My concern for AirPods is that their placement in the ear canal exposes tissues in the head to relatively high levels of radio-frequency radiation.”

More than 250 scientists and medical doctors from over 40 countries have also formally petitioned the UN and WHO, raising concerns about wireless device radiation — the same type of radiofrequency radiation AirPods emit.

And a 2025 study from Yale School of Medicine added another piece to the conversation.

Researchers exposed human brain cells grown from human stem cells to 2.4 GHz radiofrequency radiation — the exact frequency AirPods operate at.

The brain cells stopped maturing normally.

When researchers shielded them from the radiation, the effects stopped.

Importantly, this study was conducted on human brain cells, not people wearing AirPods.

It adds to why researchers continue studying how radiofrequency radiation may interact with biological tissue.

There’s also something most people don’t realize.

The safety guidelines governing wireless radiation exposure were last updated in 1996.

AirPods didn’t exist until 2016.

Those guidelines have never been updated to account for a device worn inside the ear canal for hours every day.

Wireless earbuds are now part of everyday life. You don’t have to stop using them.

But you can choose to reduce the amount of radiation your body absorbs from them.

That’s exactly what BioPods are designed to do.
